Tony and Kirsten purchased a 10-acre property called Swan Cove on Raymond Island in October 2013 as part of their move to a more natural and sustainable lifestyle.
We believe in prioritising life’s fundamentals – health, food, happiness and creating a home. Let’s cook from scratch, understand what wholesome, real food is, live with the seasons and know our neighbours. Why do we do this? Because chronic illness in industrialized countries has reached epidemic status and a lot of the blame can be placed at the feet of fast food -fractionated food, convenience foods, packaged foods and fake foods that continue to dazzle people with their slick marketing messages which sadly leaves them ultimately disempowered and vulnerable. So to put the theory into practice we produce seasonal, organic vegetables, fruits and eggs (in our purpose built 25m enclosed ‘little farm’ Octagon) and we forage for wild food seasonally such as pine mushrooms, Warragul greens, samphire, fish and prawns. We also happily accept excess produce from our lovely neighbours here on the island.
We keep our waste to a minimum by feeding it to our army of chickens who turn it into compost it and return it to our soil. It’s about returning more nutrients than we take out. We preserve and cook food the traditional way. Pickles and Jams, dried fruit and vegetables, long-ferment sourdough bread and bone broths.
In the future we hope to run workshops and dinners, consult and speak about traditional food preparation and preservation, permaculture gardening, and living a waste-free lifestyle. Some day soon we would like to have solar power for our house and workshop (eventually Yoga studio).
